About me
Characterising yourself is probably not an easy excercise. On this site I’ll at least try.
I guess most people get along with me when they get to know me better. I’d describe myself as a person that always tries to help others or at least tries to never derogate others with my doing.
I think that everybody should go his own way, but this is not ment in an egoistic manner. It is about the way you do things.
Especially in cycling you have a lot of personal interests that can collide and different views on certain topics. Focussing on yourself ist the best way of dealing with this. Balancing this with an open minded basic set up to new things and better ideas though is the thightrope walk - not only in cycling, also in life.
What I learned in cycling is so much comparebale to everyday life! During my school time my principal once told me that he always likes to have competitive athletes in his school because they know when and where to put the focus on. In school, I used to have problems but after returning from the USA and a foreign exchange year without my bike, I was somehow changed. My motivation for accomplishment was entirely new and I became one of the best students in my class.
I made some of the best friends during these three years of school and also found my girlfriend in this time. Cycling gained more and more importance and after finishing third in the national championsihps I knew I had some long lost talent still inside my body.
In October 2011 I sadly had to realize, that even beeing the probably most talented german under 23 rider and also one of the strongest in Europe, is not enough for a Pro Tour contract. I started over new and moved to Cologne for focusing on university studies. A whole new lifestyle which was of course nice but lacked of the big moments and the possibility to dedicate everything to one bright target.
But than the Leopard Team knocked on my door and I saw my chance again!
I always loved and also hated this superior spirit of cycling which every moment in life is subordinated to. I am a person that needs a comfortable surrounding with social contacts, some natural distraction and some pure leisure. I love to cook, have friends over to my appartement and listen to music. I like the easy moments with my girlfriend, when we sit on the couch, whatch a movie or just talk about her and my every day problems and enjoy a glas of wine.
I dream of a successful cycling career, a victory at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the possibility of seeing many, many places on earth and hopefully also being able to speak the languages. The aftermath of my cycling career will consider lots of imported italian products like a Vespa, a huge Rancilio coffee machine, several gallons of olive oil and red wine and the seed capital for opening a small Café called „Café Coppi“
